User Guide – Pasture Irrigation

The Irrigation screen in IdeasFarm allows recording all water applications in a pasture so that the system can automatically calculate applied depths, water volumes, flow rates, costs, and subsequent usage restrictions.

Records Section

The records table lists all irrigations performed:

Field Description
Date Day the irrigation was applied.
Irrigation Mode Can be by applied depth or flow rate.
Type Applied system used (sprinkler, drip, gravity, flood).
Start and End Time Define the total duration of the irrigation session.
Time (hrs) Effective application time.
Amount Total volume of water applied in the pasture.
Applied Depth Depth of water applied over the pasture surface.
Flow Rate Application rate calculated from volume and time.
Total Irrigation Cost ($) If a direct water cost or external service was recorded.
Usage Restriction Indicates if the pasture is restricted for animal access after irrigation.
Observation Additional notes the user wishes to record.

New Irrigation Form

The form is divided into several sections:

  1. Date
Select the exact day of application.
  2. Irrigation Type
    Options include:
    • Gravity
    • Sprinkler
    • Drip
    • Flood
  3. Irrigation Mode
Defines how irrigation will be calculated:
    • By Depth: enter the mm applied and duration.
    • By Flow Rate: enter flow (L/s, gal/min, m³/s, etc.) along with the time.
  4. Flow Unit
Select the measurement unit before recording:
    • Liters (L)
    • Gallons (gal)
    • Milliliters (ml)
    • Cubic meters (m³)
    • Cubic feet (ft³)
  5. Irrigation Time
Defined in hours, minutes, or seconds as appropriate.
  6. Cost
Add total irrigation cost if pumps, energy, or external services are used.
  7. Usage Restriction
Indicates if animal access will be restricted after irrigation (useful for biosecurity protocols).
  8. Observation
Free space for additional details (e.g., “supplementary irrigation after fertilization”).
