User Guide – Seeding in Pastures (IdeasFarm)

The Seeding screen allows you to register and track all seeding or reseeding activities for pastures and crops in a specific pasture. This information is automatically integrated with the Costs module, ensuring complete control of forage resources and their economic impact.

Overview – Seeding List

The list displays all seeding activities registered in the selected pasture, with the following key data:

Field Description
Date Day the seeding or reseeding was performed.
Type Seeding (new production cycle) or Reseeding (maintenance or reinforcement of the current cycle).
Crop Type Species sown (e.g., ryegrass, kikuyu, forage maize).
Crop / Variety Specific variety used (e.g., Kingston, Tetraploid, maize hybrid).
Amount (Kg/Ha) Seed quantity applied per hectare.
Total Amount (Kg) Automatically calculated by multiplying the dose by the pasture area.
Associated Costs Seed cost ($)
External service cost ($) (e.g., contracted machinery, mechanized seeding)
Work time cost ($)
Total seeding cost ($)

All this information is automatically integrated into the pasture Costs module, reflecting the total expenditure of the activity.

Registering a New Seeding

Clicking "New" opens the registration form with the following fields:

  1. Record Type
    • Seeding: closes the previous pasture cycle, resets the day count, and starts a new production cycle with associated seeding costs.
    • Reseeding: continues the current cycle, accumulating costs without resetting the day count.
  2. Date: day the activity was performed.
  3. Crop Type and Variety: select the species and, if applicable, the specific variety.
  4. Harvest Target (Kg/DM/Ha): target dry matter production per hectare.
  5. Residual Target (Kg/DM/Ha): minimum expected forage remaining after a cycle (used as a management reference).
  6. Associated Crops: possibility to include more than one species in the same seeding (e.g., ryegrass + clover mix).
  7. External Services: option to register if machinery, personnel, or additional inputs were hired, with their respective cost.
  8. Observations: space to note important details (e.g., weather conditions, seeding depth, estimated emergence date).
